On September 26, Norwegian Minister of Energy Terje Aasland led the official opening of the Northern Lights CO2 transport and storage facility in Øygarden, near Bergen. This project is developed by a joint venture between Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies in collaboration with the Norwegian government.

The Northern Lights CCS project off the coast of Norway has enough storage for the equivalent of 750,000 car emissions every year in the first phase. Equinor’s Smeaheia storage site, located to the south of Northern Lights, has the potential to increase storage capacity many times over.
The second phase is expected to be completed and ready to receive CO 2 delivery from Stockholm Exergi in the second half of 2028. The expected $713 million investment for the second phase includes about $141 million from the Connecting Europe Facility funding scheme approved by the European Commission in 2024.
Our standardized photovoltaic container and energy storage products are engineered for reliability, safety, and easy deployment. All systems include comprehensive monitoring and control systems with remote management capabilities.
