Here, we demonstrate the potential of a globally interconnected solar-wind system to meet future electricity demands.
Wind and solar energy power systems are distinctly characterized by multiple uncertainties and limited interoperability among each other, posing greater challenges to integrated multi-energy power systems .
Similarly, the degree of local complementarity is modulated by the atmospheric pattern: in some regions wind and solar powers can either add or oppose each other depending on the atmospheric configuration (e.g., winter power in Scandinavia under C1 and C4 patterns).
The proposed model effectively facilitates the development of a spatiotemporal forecasting framework for joint wind and solar power across the entire region, contributing to the broader goals of clean energy transition and sustainable power system development.
