An energy storage inverter represents the latest generation of inverters available on the market. During a power outage, the inverter converts the DC stored in the batteries back into AC for user consumption.
An independent DC source provides the DC side energy. The inverter converts DC energy to AC energy and is connected to a multi-scale variable inductors combination to simulate various grid impedances. The final output of the combination of the inductors is connected to the grid simulator to provide a perfect grid voltage.
Diverting power from the inverter to the DC/DC comes at an efficiency cost. The battery roundtrip efficiency is approximately 93% plus twice the DC/DC conversion loss of 98.2% equals 98.2% x 93.0% x 98.2 %, and then times the 98.0% inverter efficiency to get the power out to the grid = 87.9%.
